Contract 2018-2019
My role at HSBC/Capco was servicing the bank's ambitious Digital Transformation strategy by producing an internal website used to train 40,000 programme and project manager's on how to deliver change within the bank. Working as a Product designer with HSBC Technology's key internal team and CAPCO my role was to design a solution that would capture all of this vital information in a way that allows staff to find what they need to complete their job.
The Challenge
After a lot of analysis and working closely with the stakeholders at HSBC, we quickly noticed that this was a much bigger job than was initially anticipated. The initial ask from the client at HSBC was to update a current site that was out of date. There were three websites already built with outdated information with poor navigation and awareness. We suggested combining these websites and 300 pages of content into a single scalable website which can be updated quickly moving forward.
The Process
We needed to quickly drive design at the forfront of what we were suggesting to do to the client and the stakeholder/users. I encouraged the business to change their current way of working, which would allow us as a team to move faster. This included managing developers overseas and ensuring they had the correct tools and understanding of the goal of the site was. Working closely with the consultants at CAPCO who were re-writing the content, I designed a solution that would be able to kick start conversations with our client and stakeholders. By creating a library of components to support my design, I was able to turn requirements and content around at speed to showcase back to the business. There were a few teams I reached out to, to drive efficiencies amongst our process. These teams were brand standards and automation. I worked closely with brand standards team to ensure that we adhered to accessibility standards. HSBC as a business had a significant focus on external websites as customers would see it and not so much for internal. Within HSBC Technology, we changed that perception as we created the first internal site under this pillar to adhere to brand standards. My work got presented to EXCO, head of technology plans to implement our process, efficiencies and design standards to the rest HSBC Technology.
